"Pugile (Boxer)" embodies the strength of one’s gaze and one’s choices. The right eye is bruised in color, yet painted with light brushstrokes, conveying the subject’s fragility, which contrasts with the initial impression and the title of the work. The left hand is also depicted with a delicate touch, relating to the subject’s resolute eyes. The hook painted in the upper right corner is the needle of the scale—representing the fragile balance between choices that lead us toward happiness and those that push us to fight and sometimes leave us wounded.
