paper sculpture made from a dismantled copy of The History of Art by HW Janson

Artwork Description

"This is a pouring vessel-shaped piñata made from a dismantled copy of The History of Art by HW Janson. It is filled with something and can be broken. The title acronym stands for 'No Person Is An Empty Vessel For Knowledge.' It is part of a series of piñata sculptures made from Janson's and part of a project we've undertaken that has become a sort of informal textbook recycling service. This piece is about fracturing the idea of a singular monolithic art history and stands against the the banking model of education where knowledge is deposited or poured into the minds of students. It is supposed to be silly and fun."
