Omar Gámez
Artwork Description
Flowers is structured around a performative action in which male bodies spill their semen onto floral arrangements, previously conceived by each of the portrayed subjects. The artist and his collaborators, who share emotional and intellectual complicity, visit the well-known Mercado de Jamaica in Mexico City, one of the most dynamic and varied floral spaces in the country. This strategy continues in Gámez's studio, where the conception of the portrait takes place. It is important to note that the vast majority of those involved are usually knowledgeable about the visual genres of art history, so behind each of these compositions lies a direct transgression of the Flemish Baroque still life genre, one of the moments in art history when flowers became protagonists of the discourse
