Artwork Description

“Lata de barro” is a sculptural object that adapts to and blends into the garden—a piece woven from beads, whistles, and simple figures crafted by artisans, assembled in a composition that redefines the objects and allows for their symbolic propagation. Its weight anchors it to the ground, yet its connection with the plant defies gravity, achieving an organic equilibrium. In this (co)habitation, the clay forms are exposed to the elements, while the climbing plant embraces and weaves through them, transforming their function: from inert matter to a living part of the landscape. With this piece, Carla Hernández reclaims the popular Central American term for vines, transforming it into a sculptural gesture. From living vine to ceramic vine, the piece transitions from the organic to the fired, from the natural to the symbolic. At this crossroads, the work offers itself as a bridge: between the memory of the forest and artisanal creation, between nature’s entanglements and the weaving of community.
