Tura Oliveira
Artwork Description
“In Sunset, the armor and sword are gone. A creature pleasures her with its tentacles and insect-like mouth.” — Tura Oliveira “Sunset” is one of three new quilts in which the same lavender elfin figure undergoes a cyclical metamorphosis. Set at different times of day and readable in any order, the works stage transformation as an unstable, fluid process — oscillating between protection and exposure, control and surrender. “Across my work, tentacles function as counter-appendages. They reject the singular dominance of the eye or the hand, proposing instead a way of sensing and thinking through touch — through groping, brushing, pressing, and entangling with the world simultaneously.” — Tura Oliveira
